About the brand

In 1993, Kate Spade, accessories editor at mademoiselle magazine in Manhattan decided to create the perfect handbag she had been craving for years. She had noticed that the market lacked stylish, functional & affordably priced handbags and decided to quit her job to start her company. She made six prototypes with paper and tape. She combined sleek, utilitarian shapes and colorful palettes and used nylon instead of leather. The clean and vibrant designs quickly became popular, particularly in New York.
