René Lacoste’s story is one of challenging tradition. He gave up his studies to become the world’s best tennis player, his tenacity earning him the nickname “the crocodile.” To symbolise his success, he had a friend sew a tiny crocodile patch onto his white shirt. In 1933, he revolutionised not only French but global fashion with the iconic polo shirt made of “petit piqué” cotton, featuring the crocodile logo. In 1994, LACOSTE revealed its first line of watches at the Basel Watch Fair, showcasing the signature crocodile with two hands.
